Louise Hosford
Veterinary Nurse,
Vets Now
I qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2006 - through the NVQ route with the College of Animal Welfare. Whilst working within a large charitable veterinary hospital, I obtained a RAMA qualification, through AMTRA (companion animal), a graduate diploma in professional and clinical nursing through the Royal Veterinary College (GradDipVN), and the ISFM Certificate in Feline Nursing (ISFM CertFN).
After 12 years working in the charitable hospital - alongside some occasional locum work, I moved to a small animal clinic and continued to locum with their out of hours provider. During this time, I obtained the Vets Now Certificate in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing. With my interest in emergency and critical care work growing, I accepted a permanent position with my local Vets Now clinic - as an out of hours RVN.
After joining Vets Now in 2021, I went on to achieve RCVS Cert AVN status in 2024 - having completed a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Anaesthesia) with Harper Adams University. In 2024, I took on a temporary role at Vets Now, as Principal Nurse Manager - also winning the Vets Now Louise O'Dwyer Bursary Award later that year.
My temporary managerial role has recently come to an end, and I am continuing to work part time at my local Vets Now clinic. My particular interests are ECC nursing, clinical standards, and RVN utilisation. Outside of work, I am a married mother of 3, with a soft spot for small furries.
