Annika has graduated vet school in Giessen, Germany, where she stayed for a residency in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology, researching for her doctoral thesis at the same time. She went on to work in the pharmaceutical industry, during which time she passed the board exam of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP). Since 2015, she has been working as a diagnostic histopathologist at VPG.
