Veterinary platform launches to inspire positive cultures and modernise recruitment
)
An online veterinary community platform on a mission to accelerate cultural change and make the profession a better place to work has been launched by veterinarian Olly King.
Four years in the planning, The Meraki Initiative is a movement to promote positive cultures and inspire leadership in the profession, improving the wellbeing and sustainability of the workforce.
Meraki does this by providing an innovative marketing recruitment strategy for veterinary employers to put their teams and cultures at the heart of how they recruit and engage prospective employees.
Outdated recruitment
Traditional recruitment approaches make finding the right fit a lottery. The number of clone jobs boards and the shear volume of generic adverts make it hard to stand out. Job adverts also often undersell roles, failing to attract the ideal applicant who dismisses a position as a poor fit.

Welcome to Meraki!
Meraki overcome these challenges using unique, searchable workplace profiles for employers to share a transparent, authentic insight into the people, ethos, and life at their workplace.
Visible employee experience insights enable employers to excite and build their reputation, making it easier for individuals to decide if a workplace offers a great people and culture fit. Students and professionals are now able to make more informed decisions where they work.
By empowering people to find a culture where they can bring their best self to work and fulfil their ambitions, Meraki makes it easy for the right people to end up in the right role – helping tackle the profession’s retention crisis.
But there’s more! Employer’s can not only integrate job vacancies into their profile, they can also promote their EMS placements, their VetGDP and nurse training practice status as well as their internship and residency training opportunities.
“56% of vets find jobs by personal recommendation and internet searches.”
This transforms workplace profiles into a ‘go to’ employer directory for not only job seekers to find their dream job but for students and professionals to find the best training opportunities and research their ideal workplace.
Talent engagement that’s ‘always on’
Researching workplaces, students and professionals are able to find, network and forge meaningful relationships with prospective employers who share their values. This increased transparency and constant visibility gives employers a competitive advantage to build a network of prospective recruits, even when they are not recruiting.
Who is Meraki for?
Meraki is open to everyone to search for workplaces and training opportunities. Jobs are accessed following a simple and quick registration process.
Fully GDPR compliant, vet and nurse students, veterinary care assistants, vet and nurse professionals and practice managers can all register.
Registered individuals can create a career profile to link to their employer’s workplace profile, connect with prospective employers, save their favourite workplaces and save job applications.
Creating a workplace profile is then made available to registered vets, nurses and practice managers.
Workplace profiles
Visually iconic, and both intuitive and simple to use. Employers can show, not tell, what makes their workplace great by uploading a video and photos to make a powerful first impression that counts.
