Patients may present as recumbent for various reasons. This lecture will cover how to assess what nursing care theses patients will require. And how nurses can provide the best care to their patients, while hopefully avoiding any complications occuring. Although these patients may seem daunting they are highly rewarding patients to nurse, and once the basics are mastered it should be easy to plan their care requirements.

  • Understand what recumbent means, and some examples of why a patient may present recumbent.
  • Know how to plan an appropriate holistic care plan for these patients.
  • Understand the challenges that can arise with these patients and how to adjust the treatment plan accordingly.
  • Know what the main complications are with recumbent patients.
