This lecture is designed to provide veterinary nurses with a comprehensive understanding of feline anaesthesia, focusing on best practices, protocols, and key considerations unique to cats. We will explore the physiological differences seen in felines that influence their anaesthetic management. Topics covered will include: 1. Pre-Anaesthetic Assessment: Importance of a thorough patient history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests to identify risks and ensure safe anaesthesia. 2. Analgesic Agents: Overview of commonly use analgesic drugs and protocols for cats. 3. Anaesthesia Protocols: Tailoring anaesthesia plans to the individual cat, considering factors such as age, breed, and underlying health conditions. 4. Airway management: How to safely intubate cats and how to manage complications of intubation. 5. Post-Anaesthetic Care: Ensuring a smooth recovery including hypothermia , and airway concerns that are known to be risk factors for cats in recovery. 6. Special Considerations: Addressing the unique challenges in feline anaesthesia, including considerations for high-risk cats such patients with trauma, cardiac and renal disease. This lecture aims to provide practical information on how to improve anaesthetic safety for cats.
