A toolkit for the pig visit
In this session, Gemma Thwaites and Pete Siviter will be providing an overview of husbandry, management and veterinary interventions in small scale pig herds. When faced with a pig visit, especially as a vet who does not specialise in this species, the difficulties surrounding handling and restraint can pose real problems so we will be giving advice on how physically to go about this in order to make the visit smoother and to manage your own (and clients’!) expectations. The second half of the session will be a ‘Question and Answer’, where we will take questions from the floor about common situations and how to deal with them – most particularly the methods available for euthanasia. Further resources and where to turn for help will be included as part of the session.
