When is enough, enough? How do we define overtreatment?

We can do so many amazing things in veterinary medicine in 2026, especially when finances are not a concern and owners want us to do 'everything possible'. Whilst for some owners and animals this can result in positive outcomes, advanced treatments come with significant risks for both parties. Overtreatment of animals and advances in veterinary technology change what is possible, but how do we ensure that the best treatment for the medical condition is actually the best treatment for the animal or the owner? And how do we judge when enough is enough?
