Building resilience within Veterinary practice

12 Jun 2026
BVNA Nursing Theatre
Compassion , Empathy

This session explores what personal resilience really looks like for veterinary professionals, grounding the topic in the everyday pressures and realities faced within practice. We begin by addressing why resilience matters right now, challenging misconceptions such as the idea that resilience means being superhuman or coping alone instead focusing on realistic, human strategies that help us adapt, reset, and thrive during times of pressure or change.
The session introduces practical tools, reflective exercises, and real-life examples to help colleagues identify their natural coping patterns and build healthier, more intentional habits. It also highlights how mindset, relationships, and small, everyday behaviours contribute to resilience.
We explore the 10 Ways to Build and Develop Resilience framework, giving space for self-reflection and personal commitment-setting. The session also provides practical workload management tools—such as calendar colour coding, task prioritisation models, and digital productivity tips—alongside team-generated “Start, Stop, Continue” actions that shape how we support one another.
Ultimately, the talk reinforces that resilience is not something you face alone. It’s about connection, boundaries, shared support, and creating a working environment where everyone feels enabled and protected.

  • By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
  • Understand what resilience means and dispel common myths about it.
  • Identify key behaviours that help build resilience and choose one to develop further.
  • Recognise personal coping habits and create healthier alternatives.
  • Use simple tools to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and protect downtime.
  • Set boundaries and support each other to create a more resilient team culture.
  • Access further resources to continue building resilience beyond the session.
